The engagement ring Jason Sehorn gave Angie Harmon on Leno

Angie Harmon’s engagement ringAlthough we’ve covered Angie’s engagement ring a couple of times before, I found some new data so I figured it’s a good time to revisit the topic.

I’m amazed at how hard it is to get solid information, even from reputable sources after all these years. There are mistakes made galore.

For goodness sake, Jason Sehorn proposed to Angie in front of millions on the March 13th, 2000 Jay Leno show with Elton John singing a song to the couple. They’ve even had two kids by now. He’s a Giants player. She’s a well-known actress. It doesn’t get much more public than this without orchestrating “leaks” to paparazzi to give stars some attention.

Yet as late as September 2004, no less than the NY Times thinks the diamond is a Pear shape. Quote:

”On a purely superficial level, have you seen her rings?” one reporter asked, gesturing to Ms. Harmon’s pear-shaped, large-thumbnail-size engagement ring and diamond wedding band. Mr. Sehorn, no slouch in the bling department himself, was wearing a diamond-sprinkled Rolex.

All you need to do is look at the picture. That’s no Pear. It’s a Round. I can forgive People magazine for dating their article that describes the proposal years before it happened. But the NY Times is supposed to be at a different level.

Also, I like to know the original sources of stories. It helps you figure out what’s real and what’s not. While the ring has widely been quoted as being Bulgari, no one is mentioning their source. So if you’ve got more info on the ring such as carat size and confirmation or denial of Bulgari as the Jeweler, please do drop me a note. Thank you.

I will leave you with a good description by Zap2it of the events that transpired at the Jay Leno show back in 2000:

Harmon was discussing how she once rescued a cow when the conversation turned to her recent Glamour cover, and Leno began quizzing her about her dating habits. An embarrassed Harmon smiled and said, “I don’t talk about my personal life.”

Leno persisted, and called for her boyfriend, Sehorn, to come on stage. As soon as he did, Sehorn dropped to one knee and asked a shocked Harmon to marry him.

“Oh My God,” she exclaimed, before saying yes.

“Look at that ring,” Leno said of the engagement ring. “Even Elton is jealous.”

Leno also brought out Harmon’s father, Larry Harmon, to celebrate the moment, before yelling to the audience, “We have a love connection, ladies and gentlemen!”

“You’re not mad at me, are you?” Leno asked Harmon as the show went to commercial, explaining later that “she was making knife eyes at me” when he called for Sehorn.

Later in the show, as the newly engaged couple and Leno shared a bottle of champagne, John sang a song from the upcoming animated film “The Road to El Dorado,” prompting Leno to ask “How many people get Elton John to sing at their engagement party?”
