According to an article full of misspellings in the Chicago Sun Times, HUGE diamond rings are in. These quotes are the kind of things you will read in the article:
“Just like you can never be too rich or too thin, local jewelers say, you can never have a diamond ring that’s too ostentatious.”
“A few years ago brides were viewing three-carat stones as big,” says David Lampert of Lester Lampert jewelers, 57 E. Oak. “Now, it’s got to be at least 10 carats to be considered a big diamond. We’re selling more diamonds over 10 carats than ever before.”
“I can remember when a four-carat diamond was the ultimate in size, and it was like you died and went to heaven, Now, four or five carats is the average. It’s more or less a starter ring for an established couple.”
I’m not so sure I buy it. Maybe they got their information from the same place they got their spelling. Or maybe there really are some communities where this is true. You decide. In the meantime, enjoy the beautiful (and enormous) rings they published in their gallery:
