Locals in Sierra Leone are hopeful that the new elections last Saturday, which are still being tallied, will result in improved conditions. While I’d like to be hopeful, it seems year after year there are stories of locals hoping to make some money, but remaining poor. They hope the new government will be less corrupt than the last one. But it never seems to change much. A good year means relative peace. A bad year means destruction. Can’t humanity do better than that?
