Platinum question
Quote this post and reply to it Post#1 @ 02-19-08 , 01:45 PM

Hi

Can a platinum "basket" be mounted to a 14K WG ring? I have a ring that is platinum that need to be sized up a lot! 4 sizes. I thought it would be cheaper to just use a WG band and the platinum basket. It is an odd size stone (very deep) Thank you

Hi & Welcome

The answer to the above question is usually, can you post pics of the two pieces? this would allow me to offer a better qualified opinion.

One other question; I see you have been a member for almost four years but this is your first post.

How did that work out?

Good question. I didn't even know I was registered LOL. I don't have picks, but it is a standard tiffany setting. It is a high catherdral basket for a pear.

I've seen Jewelers do this all the time. Infact, you can buy lots of rings now-a-days that are a combination of Gold and Platinum. Since Platinum is such a durable metal, lots of people are having their Diamonds set in a Platinum head verses White Gold. Your prongs won't wear down as fast and you don't have to worry about getting them rhodium plated. The only down-side, it cost much much more, but well worth it!
