From my vacation, I checked DT. What a definite load of bullocks this is ? A rough diamond price guide ? Water down the drain, for those ordering this. See you in a few weeks, Paul |

I have just returned from my holidays, and am checking what has happened on DT in the meantime. First and before all, I want to apologize for the harsh reaction above. It is exaggerated, impolite and needs clarification. As I do not know Mister Lenigan, or his business, I want to stress that I have no problems with him or his business. However, I do have problems with the concept of a price-list for rough diamonds, especially when presented to retail customers of polished diamonds. I find that cutting diamonds is a difficult expertise, and both buying rough diamonds and cutting them requires maximum use of the experience of cutters. If inexperienced people buy rough diamonds, they are likely to gain experience by loosing money on their first transactions. Because of this, I fear that the concept of a price-list for rough diamonds induces consumers to buy rough diamonds, which is not in their best interest. On the other hand, I can understand the usefulness of such a guide for professionals, who are not constantly in touch with the market in the big diamond centers. If they understand the mechanics of such a guide, it could be a useful instrument for them. I want to apologize again to mister Lenigan for my previous reaction, which was uncalled for. I hope that this reply was more to the point. Paul |

Rough?
Personally, I have enough to handle learning about finished diamonds and how to buy them. Evaluating rough is a whole other matter. I may be tempted to buy a rough to have as a sample of pre and post cutting but to what end when the value of the rough is realized after cutting. If I knew a cutter maybe but I think it's not for this poor boy. The Rodentman |
