I have been doing research on diamonds by scanning the internet and reading "How to buy a Diamond" by Fred Cueller. I can find lots of information about ideal cuts/proportions for round stones, but nothing consistent about Princess cuts. I want to find out the following:

Suggested Table %:
Suggested Depth %:
Suggested Girdle thickness:
Suggested Crown angle:
Suggested Pavilion angle:

Please only reply if you are not going to say that "there are no standards" or "it varies" or something similar. There HAS to be a range which can be agreed upon. For example, if the Table%=95, I can assume that most would agree that this is not acceptable.

Thanks in advance.

I'm very interested in hearing about this as well. Quality of cut in a fancy shape seems to be (by far) the most difficult to determine. For instance, I was shown the following diamond :

Princess Cut, VS1, Color grade : E

Total Depth : 75.5 %
Table Width : 80 %
Crown Height : 9 %
Pavilion Depth : 51 %
Girdle Thickness : Medium to Thick, Polished.
Polish and Symmetry as Good.

I was told that this was a well cut diamond; The color and clarity look good, but the cut percentages I'm not so sure about...

Any opinions / ideas / suggestions ?

TIA

The princess cut is hard to determine, I have just become engaged and I know how hard it is to get info on princess cut diamonds. My stone has a table of 78% and a depth of 70.9%, and I have been told that it is a good cut. There is differing opinions on the princess cut. I searched under porportions, princess cut on the internet and found some useful information. But I have not found a single princess cut that is within ideal porportions. I think anything between 65% and 75% for depth, and the tables really seem to range from 70% to 85%. I think if an appraiser tells you its a good cut, then you are OK. Good Luck. The most important is color and clarity with a princess cut from what I have read.

I'm in a state of confusion as to the correct princess cut proportions as well. It is incredibly difficult to get some consensus. If any of you come across anything helpful please pass it on.
