Help With This Oval On Ebay...
Hi! I'm new here I'm shopping around for a ring/diamond and am glad I chanced upon this site! I've heard so many nightmare stories about scams on ebay etc therefore I need some advice... Has anyone bought from 5thAve Jewels (on ebay) before...? I was looking at one of their ovals (I just LOVE the setting!) found here http://cgi.ebay.com/2-86CT-OVAL-DIA...1QQcmdZViewItem I really love the setting/casing but the diamond looked quite yellow for a 'g'... I sent them an email asking for more details of the oval diamond eg. certs etc but they told me that it does not come with any cert... What do you guys think...? Thanks! |

Re: Help With This Oval On Ebay...
Can't see anything on the links because it says items bidding has ended. But I wouldn't buy a diamond in that price range without a GIA lab report, if it were me. |

Re: Help With This Oval On Ebay...
Not sure if I'm allowed to do this but here's a pic of the oval (attached)... It is discribed in ebay as: "This stunning diamond engagement ring is handmade in platinum and features one fine oval cut diamond in tbe center, G-color, SI clarity, weighing 2.26ct and 86 fine, full cut round diamonds, G-color, VS clarity, weighing .60ct, for a total of 2.86 ct. The round diamonds are pave set on all sides of the center diamond. The oval diamond is set in 4 platinum prongs. On the prongs, there are 4 fine diamonds set there also. The details in this ring are so beautiful. The way the diamonds encircle the diamond in the center, with the fine milgrain edges on the band, makes this ring extra special. The oval diamond measures 9.55 x 7.31 x 4.75mm. The ring is a size 6 1/2 and can be adjusted." Hope this is allowed... |

Re: Help With This Oval On Ebay...
I emailed them (Oval Ring fr 5thAve Jewels) and asked if they would consider just selling the setting/casing without the oval diamond. They replied saying they would for $2,800... Ermm... I find that that price is rather steep for the setting/casing...? I mean, I'm not sure if it's brand new...? Is that the price for a casing like that...? ThankS! |

Re: Help With This Oval On Ebay...
If that oval stone is a G, then I'll eat my hat. It's probably not an SI either. Through my experience with eBay jewelry, the power sellers typically overrate the quality of their diamonds by 2 grades. In fact, many of them have "fine print" in their auctions stating no refunds unless they were off by more than 2 grades. |

Re: Help With This Oval On Ebay...
Ha ha ha Thanks taylormillgirl, the oval does look overrated that's why I emailed them to enquire, and they responded with a 'The diamond is not certified'. I really do like the setting though... do you know where it's from? Or is it exclusively from them only...? They did mention that they would sell it to me for $2800... I'm really not sure if the setting is worth that much... |
