What do the metal marks inside my ring mean?
Quote this post and reply to it Post#1 @ 01-26-07 , 02:39 PM

I was talking to a couple of people about the marks in our rings. Mine says "950 PLAT," which I understand means 95% platinum. It also says "18K BA." What does that mean? My only guess is perhaps related to the balls (that were put in generously by a jeweler I met on these forums about five years ago!) in the bottom? The other person's ring says "18K PLAT" - what does that indicate?

What type of ring is the person's 18k Plat. If a solitaire it could mean that the ring shank is 18kt and the prong is platinum or is it a wedding band that is a two tone color? It could mean that it is part 18kt and part platinum.
Not sure on the 18kt.BA what that means. Was it on the ring when you first got it or later when they added the sizing balls?
Also the BA could be a manufacture stamp that made the ring.

As far as I know, the one that says "18K PLAT" is just a platinum band.

I don't know if the stamps in mine were both there when I got the balls put in or not. It's been about five years, so I really don't remember at all.

OK, half solved. He just told me that his band has gold sides, which he didn't mention before. Still not sure about mine, which I thought was all plat.

Is yours an engagement style or band. Possibly it has a 18kt shank and platinum prong and BA stands for the manufacture.
Just guessing. Most people don't get balls put into weddingbands.
