Hello, My engagement ring is a 2.26 carat oval rose cut diamond in a platinum crown mounting - circa 1905. I absolutely LOVE it, and am interested in one day soon buying another antique diamond ring - or loose antique stone. Can anyone recommend a reasonably-priced, trusted source for loose rose cut, old european cut, asscher cut or cushion cut diamonds? I can't seem to track any of these loose gems down, nor can I find any in antique rings outside of expensive estate jewelry stores in Beverly Hills. I feel like there must be a place to purchase these cuts at a better value. Also, any idea on the appraisal value of antique platinum rings with an antique cut stone in it? I would think a rare diamond is a rare diamond regardless of whether it was cut yesterday or 100 years ago - but is there additional value either due to the rare cut stone or the antiquity itself that I should be paying a little more for? And (finally) does anyone have any information on rose cut diamonds? I'd like to know more about them. (Whew.)
