Champagne Taste, beer budget!
Hey all! Been lurking off and on for a while, learning as much as possible, and now getting serious about choosing my e-ring. I saw that $12.5K Daniel K Asscher ring with the baguette halo and fell in love. Of course, I have California Sparkling wine taste with a beer budget (a little simpler than Champagne taste! Ha!) so I am still in the process of narrowing down what I can live with and can't live without. I am going to Robbins Bros tonight to try and look at as much variation in color and clarity as possible because they pride themselves on being patient - we'll see about that! I have also narrowed down that I want something in the line of 75 points to maybe 90 points, and of course as ideal a cut as possible. I also (of course) love love LOVE Platinum, so thinking about a palladium setting, but of course, we'll see. Anyway, already started contacting some of the jewelers that have been highly recommended on DT, and I am really excited! If anyone has any suggestions, especially recommendations on jewelers that can do custom work in palladium, please let me know! I will continue to lurk...

Re: Champagne Taste, beer budget!
Welcome to DR! I know for a fact that Knox jewellers work in a palladium mix and so does Michael E. I'm not sure whether the other NJs do but they will all be happy to help and answer your questions. Good luck! |

Re: Champagne Taste, beer budget!
Have you checked out the asscher in a pink diamond halo on diamondsbylauren? It would be unique, but more in range of you budget |

Saw it, yes unique, but not me! So far so good though, most everyone here has been really helpful and I am getting closer and closer to my dream ring! ![]() On another topic, I did go to Robbins Bros last night and was literally FLOORED at the prices they want and their lack of knowledge. They had a 1.25 carat I color, VS2 clarity non branded asscher cut and they wanted $7995 for it, and I kept asking for more info like proportions, cut grade, and she glossed over it. I thought about pushing her, but I was pretty certain I wouldn't be buying from them anyway, so I let it go. My goal was to look at color and clarity grades and that's exactly what I accomplished! I have decided on: I Color (could go to J IF the diamond is exceptional) VS2 Clarity (Could do SI IF the diamond is exceptional) Still open to size, but definitely don't want less than 70 points or much more than a carat. Also, looking through some of the alloy threads here and i am now open to 18K WG Palladium alloy (Thanks Michael E!) I have to say that this message board has been one of the most helpful and information rich place I have seen since starting my education on Diamonds! Thanks everyone!!! |

Re: Champagne Taste, beer budget!
You might also consider emailing vendors here, or checking their websites...they might be able to track down a diamond closer to the specs you are looking for. |

Re: Champagne Taste, beer budget!
Thanks! I actually have been talking with some vendors, and I do believe I have narrowed it down. Now I have to wait for FI to do all the final work since it it supposed to be surprise! |
