Rhodium plating prices
I am purchasing a used 10kt yellow gold ring and would like to have it rhodium plated. There is a blue topaz set into into that I assume would have to be removed prior to the plating. I am curious if the network jewelers here do this often, and if so, for what price. Any information would be greatly appreciated! |

Re: Rhodium plating prices
I personally would not recommend this - Brian is right - as the plating wears off the yellow metal would be unattractive showing through. I had my rings replated for $35 each and the results were great - but that was over white metal. |

Re: Rhodium plating prices
While I do agree that having something plated in white gold is not the best long term solution, I do know of a few people who have had this done and been thrilled with the outcome. One case was a yellow gold wedding set which she no longer wore because she had since switched over to the all white metals. Once it was done, the set looked amazing and beautiful!! I think if you understand that the plating will wear off and it will require regular maintenance, it can be a great solution if you have a yellow gold item and you really don't want that color. |

Re: Rhodium plating prices
I've been rhodium dipping my ring for the last year or so. It looks great when it's done, but needs to be done every 3 or 4 months. I've waited so long to do mine this time, it's pretty much back to yellow gold. If I don't end up resetting my dipped ring as we are planning, then I will definitely keep dipping it. |

Re: Rhodium plating prices
I forgot to mention the price. I paid about $35.00 last time I did it. I was in a jewelry store the other day (I think Samuels) and they dip in about 30 mins, where usually I have to leave it for a day or two. Anyway, they quoted me $55.00 for both pieces. I have an ER and a guard. |
