More Inherited Gold

I'm starting to see why I'm a fan of engraving....

Here's a couple of pics of the gold and ebony cane I inherited from my maternal grandfather (apparently made by HIS father, who was quite a craftsman) in 1901).

The head is hand-engraved and is most likely an overlay of gold on an unknown material. I have no idea what it's worth, and wouldn't consider selling it EVER, though I should have it appraised at some point.

As usual, the lighting's less-than-perfect to show the detail. Enjoy!

I am truly lucky... we drew names (male cousins) for Grandpa's items of significance. There was also a beautiful pair of jade cuff links (I was quite young and had my eye on those) but I'm glad I got this cane to hang onto and pass down to my son or grandson.

Gemelli, it's so great to see these antique pieces! And it doesn't get any better having some family history associated with them. Amazing detail on the cane!! They sure knew what they were doing back then!

Wow, that is really an amazing piece and the engraving is so incredible!! I can see someone stepping out in a top hat with that cane!

Do you get much occasion to, um, wear, or carry, a cane these days?

It's an absolute beauty! What an heirloom!
Hopefully it, along with it's history, will be passed down to many future generations!

RubyMu: I'm going to have to make some occasions, since I don't know of any offhand.
