Questions about diamonds and black light
Quote this post and reply to it Post#1 @ 07-17-06 , 12:52 PM

Hello!

I'm new to this thread and had a question about diamonds that I was hoping that you would be able to help me answer.

DH has a diamond wedding band and while visiting a client the other day he noticed that some of the diamonds in his bands were glowing under black light and some were not. Same thing goes for his diamond studs. Does this mean anything? He scared it means that some of his diamonds are fake so he's freaking out! Can anyone help?

Thanks!

It just means they have some fluorescence - some diamonds have it, some don't. Do a search on here and you will see it's nothing to worry about unless it makes the stones look milky.

He was witnessing Flourescence in diamonds. It's not a bad thing unless it makes the diamonds appear oily or hazy.

It happens to the best of them! GIA has a nice page about diamond fluorescence if anyone cares to go to the bottom of it (or almost).

Here's the LINK

In the meantime, cute pictures rarely hurt, do they ...
