It's like a square baguette or square step cut.

They are slightly different. They have more of a square corner like a princess versus a cut corner of the asschers. They would make a nice complimentary band though.

I'd not heard of this cut either. Jan, I'm guessing that the fact that they don't have the cut corners means they don't have the sparkle through that 'x' shape like the asschers. Am I even making sense!?!

Jan...is the term "carre cut" widely used? It's new to me, too. Is it considered an older style cut?

(Always looking for an excuse to post my goodies... ) here's a pic of a sidestone in one of my rings...the GIA called it a 'square step cut'. Since it doesn't have clipped corners, there are no asschery windmills.

Do I have a pair of 'carre cut' diamonds and not know it?

Hi Widget,
Yes I think you do. Your picture looks more like a carre' cut. We carry anniversary bands with this cut in them. So the carre' are like a square step cut, and no windmills like the asschers.

Oh! I've been eyeing this band from Tiffany's, and they just call is a "square cut diamond."

They are very pretty.

I wonder how a band of these would look next to my new emerald cut diamond? hmm....

I think that those stones would look GREAT with an EC ering.

Sometimes I think tiny square ECs (asscher=y ones with windmills) almost look 'busy'. My carre sidestones ( )are very bright, but more "mirror-y", than glittery.

How do you pronounce carre'? Is is CAR (as in like an automobile), or CARE (like the name Carrie)? Just trying not to sound ingnorant when I speak of them... Of course, how many people outside of DT actually even know about them? :-)

Here's a Precision Set mounting that I'm liking, but it's got asscher cuts. Like you, Widget, I think the asschers might be too busy for the emerald cut center.

Jan,

Do you think y'all could create a mounting similar to this one except with Carre' diamonds? Also, I'm thinking of maybe split prongs for the center stone. My emerald cut is only .92 carats, so what size (width in mm) would you suggest, so that the center stone isn't overpowered by the mounting? Also, I wouldn't want the diamonds to go all the way around.

Hmmm.... the wheels are turning in my mind for my next project...

haha,

I have the little thumbnail pics to the threads turned on and I saw that square emerald stone and immediately identified it as one the sidestones in Widget's emerald ring (before even noticing the green next to it, mind you). It's a little sickening, isn't it? Reminds me of how the other night when I went to MWM's gallery site under older creations and recognized Atlantah from DT's (anyone remember that old-timer??) pear solitaire. And of course the infamous "buttercup" ring. I know I'm not alone in this!

Anyway, I second Irish, we love seeing your goodies, so post away. I'm glad they are makinf more jewelry with these stones too!
