I am shopping for a round diamond. I'm happy with an H/I, SI1/2/3, and my budget is no more than $6000.

The best one I've seen so far has the following characteristics:

Weight: 1.58
Color: I
Clarity: SI3
Depth: 60.5
Table: 61
Dimensions: 7.42mmx7.39mm
Polish: Exc
Symmetry: Very Good
Price: $5600 wholesale
Certificate: EGL

It's gorgeous. The unique aspect is that it is a 100 facet cut. Any thoughts on the price on this stone, and more importantly, any thoughts on the 100 facet cut?

I would recommend holding out for the 101 facet cut...

Sorry for the lame joke, welcome to the forum.

IMO many of these modified round brilliant cuts with extra faceting are nothing more than a gimmick and offer nothing new other than a different number of facets.

Sure. when you factor in personal preference, there will be some 'new cuts' that appeal to a select few.

IMO, I would have to say that Marcel Tolkowsky pretty much nailed it with the modern brilliant cut.

Bottom line, if you have compared this diamond with modern brilliant cuts and are happy with the look and happy with the seller and what the seller brings to the table, then go for it.

Thanks for the reply.

Will I be able to get a diamond with the same characteristics with the modern cut for this price?

In your opinion, is this a good value?

An EGL SI3 is more than likely a stone that will have eye visible inclusions. Personally, I would opt for a slightly smaller diamond that is eye clean and well cut. Also I would look for one with a GIA lab report.
EGL is notorious for having loose grades on color and clarity.
