old diamonds ....

During my search, I have determined (with a little help from her) that the setting will be a three stone. I was thinking that the sides would be .25 each. Then I received a call from my jeweler who just purchased an estate piece that has 5 .35's in it. Two of them match the specs on my diamond (g, vs2, very good cut). They will be the same price if I were to buy two .25's. Should I be concerned with the age of the stones? obviously, I will check for damage to the stones.
Any help appreciated.

Im not an expert, but as long as they are not damaged and are cut in the same fashion as your main stone (not mine cut, european etc) then I wouldnt worry about it...afterall, there is no such thing as a new diamond...they are all about 3 billion years old.

No, they are all hundreds of millions years old :-)

I would worry more about the overall look, crown height and table size matching.

I looked at them and they looked nice. I assume I would be able to tell the difference between a RB and mine cut/old european cut. Am I mistaken?

One more question. As far as settings, the sides will be basic four prong baskets...the center will be a four prong tiffanty style..not that high, but not flush with the sides. Is this ok? Safe?

Sure it is OK as far as being safe...

But the ring is going to look better with three similar style crowns.

The two basket sides with a peg style tiffany center always looks like three sticks nailed together, IMO

Here are three samples of three stone rings with three similar crowns.

It just makes for a cleaner, more finished look.
