Oval v Cushion Cut within my budget ?
Quote this post and reply to it Post#1 @ 03-05-06 , 06:29 PM

Hi Everyone

First of all, a big hello I've been lurking the site for a while in an effort to educate myself.. but I've come this far and think I might need some educated opinions if you guys would be so kind.

I'm looking at getting a low profile solataire ring but I'm unsure of a few things .. firstly I love both cushion and oval shaped diamonds and having a real drama deciding which one (i'm a hopeless librian) .. So I guess I'm asking which do you guys prefer ?

Ultimately I would really love something approximately 1 c..
BUT - I'm a bit unsure .... if I've learnt anything from this site, its to priorotise the cut above all things. As I still want a relatively bright white stone, what sort of colour could I go down to ?

Am I being realistic given my budget is approx $3-4K with a platnium setting ?

I would be grateful for any feedback you gurus might be able to provide

x Clare

I'm not certain, but I think for your budget you can get close to a 1carat... I'd say go for cushion, as those are SO amazing looking. That'll be my next "fun" ring (I can wish right?)

Some people are really sensitive to color, as am I. I have a G color stone, and the side stones are H, and honestly? I can't tell the difference, and they look white to me.

My mom has an I colored diamond, and I can SORTA see a difference, but who knows...

GOOD LUCK and WELCOME!

Oh, and yes go w/ CUT as that'll make a difference in many areas...

technically you can find a 1 carat cushion, but it may not sparkel if not cut right, and with that being said, i'd rather compramise the magic number as long as it meant I would be getting a SPARKLY well cut diamond.

Like if you had to compare a 1 carat that was $4000 (this is an example) and it was nice and all, but not flashy...

Then if you saw a .85 carat for $4000, sure it's "smaller" (not by much), but if this one was more sparkley i'd MUCH rather go w/ the .85 than a cloudy 1 carat..

Hi Clare, welcome to DT!

I agree with snooper - a great .80 is better than a bad 1.0 ct.
