how to pick a setting for a radiant diamond
I just got engaged this Christmas and my fiancé did a pretty good job picking a center stone it is a .85 vs1 D in color. He wants me to choose the setting. Well I am looking for something that enhances my diamond and is classic. I have thought about a halo setting but I am thinking that in order for it to look right the color of the stones in the setting would need to be also D and we are trying to keep the cost done. Any ideas on getting a setting that is classic, sophisticated, enhancing size and sparkle on a budget, PLEASE HELP

I meant to say keep the cost down. I must be tired. |

How about this: 14 KT white gold housing a 1.71 H/SI-1 radiant. Simple yet shows off the diamond. |

Celima, my suggestion would be D'Vatche's X prong..... ( Your stone sounds gorgeous!!) |

Re: how to pick a setting for a radiant diamond
Any prong head that fits for emerald cuts works for radiants. I'd go with a mounting that's got a pair of nicely matched trapezoid cuts on the sides, and in 18k white. It's a million dollar look. |

Re: how to pick a setting for a radiant diamond
Here is one that we did with a 1.00 ct. radiant. This one has an E color center diamond and it looks fine with the G color side diamonds with half moon side stones. Also here is another one with baby radiant side stones. The neat thing about the halo style rings is that they make your center diamond look alot larger.

Re: how to pick a setting for a radiant diamond
celima, that's great that you get to pick your own setting. sorry, i don't have pics to post but my vote is for trillion or other side stones. Also, I would have the center radiant set with double prongs. I think side stones will give your ring more of that "wow" factor. actually, on the most recent issue of martha stewart weddings, there's a picture of a radiant with heart side stones on the cover, which is TO DIE FOR... sl98 |

Re: how to pick a setting for a radiant diamond
good point. celima, what exactly is the budget? i'm a big fan of side stones so i say go for those if you can afford it. question for the experts - if she were to get side stones how far down could she go in color? would she have to stay in the colorless range or could she go down to a G? my e-ring has a D center, but my wedding band has Gs. Because the diamonds in the band are much smaller and channel set, you don't notice the color difference and in fact, it makes my e-ring look even better. i don't know if you could get away with it with the side stones right next to the center though. thoughts? (of course, all this is moot if it's not in Cel's budget...) |
