Is ASHA the best diamond simulant ?
Quote this post and reply to it Post#1 @ 07-31-05 , 04:09 PM

Hi

I currently have a .55 caret ring. colour j, SI1 (i think !)

Its not a bad ring but I've always hampered after a bigger whiter ring....
(1 - 1.5 and an E/F/G)

I can't afford to purchase a real diamond and not sure if I'd want to spend that amount of money anyway

I was thinking of mossianite but don't like the sound of green/yellow tints....what is ASHA ?

Its that a realistic option...? I am going to tell people its a diamond so don't want it to look like its not

I do have a number of CZ rings and would not be happy with their quality as a simulant...is ASHA any better

What woudl your advice be ?

many thanks

Hi

What is your opinion on ASHA ?

How does it compare to moissanite ?

I want a 1.25 ct ring but can't afford the real thing !

Will either of these look like a diamond ?

The preceding form was filled out on our Ask DT page.

No. There is no real "simulant" for a diamond. A real diamond has properties that goes far beyond any sim. Think about this: A ruby is closer in hardness to your fingernail...than it is to a diamond! A diamond is that much more hard than a ruby...than a ruby is to your fingernail.

Now....apply that to the other diamond properties to those of the simulants you have been pitched. Truth is...there is not a single simulate that comes close to a diamond. They are all in the same bag. Might as well own a CZ. They are all alike.

Only a diamond will react like a diamond. You don't need to own a Flawless diamond. A SI2 will do just fine.

But the ASHA is as close to a diamond....as a Honda is close to a Porche.

If you want to be a P. T. Barnum candidate....buy the ASHA.

YourGemologist,

While I understand your point about there not being anything such as a diamond simulant, and that nothing is going to compare to a diamond I think you're post is very short-sighted and not helpful to the poster. There are many people who are interested in something that looks like a diamond but isn't for various financial and ethical reasons. It would be helpful to propose a solution, rather than belittle the person asking the question.

You are absolutely right Hope77, I propose that discussion of simulants should take place on SimsTalk

Welcome to DiamondRing btw...
