Fishtail head - looking for one (findings)
Hi, I'm looking for a fishtail head for an approximately 7mm round. Who makes them? So far I've found a platinum and a gold at Southeastern (like their platinum better since it appears to have better detail on the prongs.) I want to have setting made based on the ring at http://www.idasgems.com/engagementrings/1250.html but fishtail heads are difficult to find. I want to use stock findings, not custom. |

(where's the Edit buttom on this new forum...) And I meant to add I don't want cartoonish huge corners on it. The prongs on the Ida's ring are just about right. This one is too much http://www.engagement-ring-mounting...fo.php?id =288 |

Re: Fishtail head - looking for one (findings)
Hi - I loved thsi thread - gorgeous antique rings! I am looking for this exact ring (mentioned above - http://www.engagement-ring-mounting...fo.php?id =288 I like the large fishtail prongs, and the simple (50's?) style of this ring. I have looked everywhere - I contacted this company and they have great service, wonderful, but I need this ring to accommodate a 1.75 - 2.0 carat stone, and this mounting will hold only a smaller stone. Does ayone know where I can buy a quality Platinum mounting like this for a 1.75 - 2.0 carat ROUND stone, finger size 8.25-8.5? Any help is appreciated (I am not in the jewelry trade) |

Re: Fishtail head - looking for one (findings)
gulfgirl, That setting would be easy enough to make. The head can be fabricated from a heavy princess head with the upper side bars replaced with your choice of decorative side bars. If you look at the side bars on the ring shown, they are only decorative on the sides in line with your finger. On the sides where the band meets the head they are flat bars. The "fishtail" prong tips like that are just a matter of cutting the tips appropriately. The band itself is readily available from nearly any supplier in any width and thickness that you'd like. Platinum is way up right now and is still climbing. I would expect this to cost a pretty penny...or two. |
