I have large (and small) pieces of rough turquoise. The biggest piece is about 25 lbs, next down is about 20 lbs a few 5 lbs and then walnut, pecan, almond and peanut-size, to use a nut (okay, I know the peanut is not a nut) analogy. I am curious as to the best way to market this stuff. I checked on ebay, but I see no real postings for large pieces of rough turquoise. I see web pages with out-of-this-world prices on small rough pieces, but I chalk that up to web marketing. What is the best source to get a reputable appraisal on this stuff, and the best place to sell it? Finally, should I quit my day job because I am rich?

BTW, I am in the Phoenix area, so I figure to be in the midst of turquoise land

Here's a pic that you may enjoy seeing. I first saw these Harry Winston earrings on ebay over a year ago and still no one has bought them...

area also, and if you have truly top quality rough, you should have no trouble connecting with a lapidary who specializes in turquoise...just try the phone book or put a small add in the newspaper.

The prices for turquoise can vary a huge amount depending on the quality, the source, and the market chosen. I've seen prices as low $3/pound and as high as $10/ct for rough. The customers for rough are lapidary artists and this is a reasonably popular hobby. (Turquoise is easy to cut and relatively inexpensive so amateurs like it). Look for stores in the phone book under 'rock shops' or 'lapidary supplies'. The store will, of course, expect to make a profit at this deal but they have access to the customers. For the most part, they earn their money.
