Hello all. I'd like to learn more about champagne diamonds. I have found so little information on the range of colors. Can anyone lead me in the right direction? I think I am leaning toward a C3, C4, or C5 as the intensity that I like best, but it's so hard to tell based on pictures. Here is one listed on eBay that really catches my eye. Not that I'm looking for a 2 ct (probably more like a 0.50 to 0.55 ct for a pendant), but is it possible that it looks this beautiful in person? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...item=4960663113 This seller has many that look great in his pictures. Thanks for any advice. MsDiamondLil |

Hi Lil, I too love champagne diamonds but I prefer the lighter shades. I have not personally purchased from that ebay seller, but he has been recommended to me from several sources and they claim his items are very good and his pictures very accurate. The one you linked too sure is pretty. |

That seller has very nice photos, they are fairly accurate. Here are some cognacs in jewellery:
Here is another photo of a group of cognacs beside a small C4 diamond ring I have:
Enjoy.

Oh my gosh Roisin, those are sure some pretty stones there. Here's part of a chart I found online somewhere last year. It may not be exactly accurate, but it gives me an idea at least of the color grades. I'd love to find a a nice C1/C2 someday. The light colors are very difficult to find. |

OMG, those picture are beautiful, Roisin. I am really falling in love with champagne diamonds. Now the trick will be finding one that is very well cut and a nice color. I talked to David at DBL about this briefly a week or so ago. I'll have to give him another call. DiamondLady, I have the same chart. I found it at www.preciousmetals.com. It's hard to say how accurate the colors are though. Unfortuantely, I don't know of anyplace where I can go and compare colors side by side. Any other sources for purchasing these colored gems? Orzo, that's a great stone, what a good find it was! This is a scale I find most accurate (on my monitor, anyway) The one from PM's seems a little too saturated from here.
I looked at a larger C7 stone last year - it was ultra-dark, a beautiful tone, but the sparkle was just not there... I know where to buy these stones in AU, but as far as the US goes...no idea. I would imagine DBL would be the best place to start too.

Great stone, Orzo. Let me guess: Another awesome pawn shop find. I like the bezel setting. Based on Roisin's scale, I like C4 - 6. I wonder if setting in a rose gold bezel would enhance the orange/red undertones? I can't afford any thing with the dredded "p" word undertone(dare I say pink?), so maybe a rose gold bezel? Yes- that was a pawn shop find- it is a 3.42 carat C4 that was in a mans ring. Due to inclusions it is in the bezel to help hide them by letting less light in -and I thought a stone that big wouldn't look great in prongs. I too like C4 and up- I prefer some white set with the champagne or chocolate for contrast. |

C3 is a very attractive shade, IMO. I picked a pair of C3's last year for a friend - they were to go either side of a D diamond. They were surprisingly warm and blushy in tone, I liked them immensely! I am resetting my little C4 into a rose gold bezel this week - I don't know how different it will look, but there's no way it could look bad!

Roisin, I hope you post some pics of your new ring -- side by side, before and after. I like the idea of champagne set in pink gold better than yellow, and a bezel may intensify the rosy color a bit -- at least that is my hope. I saved the pictures you posted above so I can have something to drool over until I'm ready to buy myself one. MsDiamondLil |

Here is my champagne diamond I purchased from "Diamondboy" on Ebay, it is 2.05ct , probably a C2-C3, and changes from darker to light depending on which light it is in. The flashes of light that come from these champagne diamonds is simply beautiful! Flashes of orange, pink, reds...mine has some pink undertones in certain lighting too...really pretty taupe colored stone. Here is the ring in outdoor lighting... |

and inside, I just cannot capture the sparkle this diamond has, it is beautiful. (the prongs kinda look funky in this, but they arent, just my camera...) |

Wow, Jasmin, your ring is really beautiful. I have a pendant project in mind using about a half carat diamond. Initially I was leaning toward a Y/Z yellow diamond, but now I'm leaning back toward a C4 or C5 champagne. I want something unique, and I think the champagne will give me that. Plus, a well-cut Y/Z yellow as going to cost me more than I really want to put into a "cute" pendant. Anyone else have any champagnes to share? MsDiamondLil |

Here is a useful little graphic I recently made, it refers to Argyle C colour scales, so I thought I would include it:
