I am new here. I had tried posting this before and was told that I didn't actually join. I think I have actually joing now, let me know. We got a price for a stone with the following specs of $5895. Does that sound right for this? Could we get a bigger stone around $6,000 and have it still look good. i have to say, the stone looks incredible, but small to me. I think I just have diamond envy of all of my friends with their 3 ct + rings. 1.27 carat Cushion Color G Clarity VS2 6.93x5.7x3.88mm 68.1% depth 60% table Med to thick girdle Culet none Polish Very Good Symmetry Good Flouresence Med Blue |

If it seems small to you- maybe you want round? A 1.27 round should be about a 7mm diameter. |

Hello and Welcome! It seems a "little" small. I am only basing this on my cushion cut.......so, that said, I may be corrected by the experts! My Cushion is a 1.24 G-SI1 6.92x6.24...Ex polish Excellent symmetry. I forget the depth...but I know it is not too deep or shallow ! I paid a little less than what your looking at. You should check out Diamonds by Laurens website.....David is the man...He may even reply to this post and help send you in the right direction! ~Ronda

Yes, there is a GIA cert and I've seen it in person and LOVE it. But, I don't want to look at it in a year and regret it. I thought fancy diamonds were supposed to look bigger than round, is that a fallacy? I definitely want a cushion, and prefer the rectanglish ones to square. Any suggestions on a setting to make it look larger? I have considered a Ritani endless-love type setting with a little less diamonds, i.e. just the bezel and the band half way around. Or just a very thin one row of teeny sparkly diamonds. By future fiance thinks this might make it look smaller. We are going to look at stuff this weekend and see. |

The square ones look smaller- but the MArquise and Pear look bigger!! |

BTW, Thank you for your replies. I have been reading DT for about a year now. And, yes, I guess MY Mazda will suit me just fine. I just want to be completely happy w/ it. |

Ah, I see. Well, the only Marquise I have ever like is Catherine Zeta-Jones' 10ct. And that aint gonna happen! As far as pear, I like it, but don't love it and my future fiance HATES pear. I am shocked he let me look at cushions, he was sold on round, but that's just not me.

Yes, I could trade up. Although I do plan on trading up over the years, I do not ever want to sell my original diamond. Just personal preference. I will probably do what my mother did and have it set as a pendant for my daughter or myself. He is a family jeweler that we have used for years but never bought diamonds from. We trust him, but just never dealt with him on this level. My boss was recently in the market for a huge honker and had some connections that I asked around about, but their prices didn't seem much better. Just want to make sure it's a fair price. I looked at it again last night and I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE it. The size isn't bothering me so much anymore. It looks so pretty and from what I've read on here, the way it looks is major in deciding factor. Thanks for the input. I understand about the shallow depth thing, but I have also seen 2ct diamonds that had a spread that was much larger that personally I thought looked crappy. I would rather have a very sparkly, pretty small diamond. Any thoughts on the setting? Will a small, thin sparkly teeny diamond band make it look smaller or bigger? We are going to design the setting tomorrow. I am leaning towards just thin diamond band, no bezel. |
