I have a 9mm (3ct) round queen's cut interlap that I would like set into a ring. My question is: Is there a specific mounting size that I need to have or will any semi mount setting fit the size of the stone?

Please enlighten me ! Thanks.

Hi Daydreamer,

It depends on the type of ring and type of crown.

Look at the two examples and you can see how in the upper left example, the crown is designed for a particular size or a finite range of sizes.

This type of ring can still be made for various sizes, but it involves making a whole new ring with a different size crown.

The other example has a "peg crown" which is welded to the shank, this is easily changed for various size stones.

Brian

Find a competent designer/benchperson and they can make even a 'off the rack' design look "custom made" for your stone.
