Help Me Find This Setting
Hi there, I just joined this forum after doing a lot of research online on how to aquire a proper engagement ring for when I ask my girl to marry me in the future (not sure quite when yet). I have talked to her about this topic before and I know she would like a traditional diamond ring in a platinum setting. She has told me she likes either interesting and very modern settings or something that looks like an antique. She is a fun artist and wants a ring that's not particularily traditional. And I I'm particularily lucky because she doesn't want a huge stone or something that juts out too far because she'll be doing a lot of dirty work with her hands when she is working on her art. Now, here is the first question I have for the people of this forum. I saw an add several months back in the Boston edition of the Metro (that free newspaper a lot of cities have). I'm pretty sure it was from a rather upscale jeweler, and it was advertising a diamond engagement ring with a very interesting setting. The setting was a plain platinum band that never closes. Instea, at the top where it would normally have the prongs for a solitair diamond it rises into two smooth walls (slightly taller than the diamond on the ring. The diamon then seems to float inbetween the two walls, held together by tension. I suspect there are two small grooves inside the walls of the ring that help keep the diamond in place, but I'm not certain. Either way, I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me what place sells this, or if any of your individual outfits would be able to put something like this together. It was probably the most elegant and unique setting i had ever seen in my life. If my description is not adequate, please ask and I'll try to draw it into the computer and post a picture of what it looks like (keep in mind though, it won't be a work of art, so please don't make fun. ;P). Anyway, I thank you for reading this lengthy post, and I would appreciate any help you can give me at all. |

You folks are like a gift from heaven. Now, I just need to see the prices to see how good of a gift. |

I'm just curious. What is the life expectancy of a tension ring? Is there a high chance of the diamond just popping out one day or is it about as secure as a normal ring that holds the diamond with a set of prongs? |

Hiya I think the important thing with tension rings is get one that is made by the right manufacturer.... if a tension set ring is not correctly made, you can end up with your diamond falling out.... I have been told that when done correctly it is very secure. You'd be best speaking to someone who supplies tension set rings... I know Diamond Brokers of Florida do, not sure if any other DT vendors do them?Good luck! Ali |

Gorgeous
Tensions settings are so beautiful! I'm sure you can't go wrong there. I could never deal with one myself though . . . seeing my precious diamond all naked and exposed like that, even if I was assured it was secure, would just make me so nervous!
