Portal2012, may you take a pic of the ring outside in sunlight and one in the shade? |
|
|
The photo was taken in the shade at noon. I'll take a photo tomorrow in the sun, just for you. The thing was, this ring was commissioned in white gold but produced in yellow gold, so it's up for sale on the open market, and I have one unhappy customer

Photo in direct sunlight
Photo taken at noon, 90°F in Santa Marta, Colombia. I solved the customers' problem by commissioning ANOTHER 5 emerald ring in WHITE gold this time, because I just couldn't bring myself to melt this beautiful piece of work. |

Nice green color Portal. I'm going to experiment with my mom's emerald ring in the sunlight and try to upload it here, later on. |

Electroplating with rhodium
is a better solution than making another ring. I'll post the results in a couple of weeks. I'm looking forward to tonysgeko's emerald posting. |

I thought taking pics would be easy, when in reality it took quite a few tries to get a couple of barely decent ones. Now I have a new respect for the people that post their own jewelry pics. |

This one taken outdoors. |

My experience was the same, digital photos use light differently than 35mm. I'm using a 6 year old Sony Mavica ("MVC-FD7 Optical 10X f=4.2mm-42mm 1:1.8") and it took some time to learn how to get some good shots. Lots of fun to take photos every day and post them right away on the internet! I'm going to post the 2 raw emeralds I bought today on another thread. |

both the rings are gorgeous. just curious where did u buy the emeralds and who set them for u how much shud i expect to pay for a similar ring? |
|
|
As I have lived for 30 years in Colombia, I've had many opportunities to buy cut and uncut emeralds. I have several local jewellers who set to my specifications. Replacement cost for this ring: 600 dollars. |

Dare I ask what it might sell for? It is absolutely gorgeous! I'm not sure why I even ask... I've already promised myself a new bicycle with lots of little add-ons. It's part of my promise to take better care of myself. I've been riding a mountain bike for the past 15 years but have never been really comfortable on it but too cheap to buy a better/more comfy bike... blah, blah, blah - so I've decided to hold off on buying pretties this year and get the bike instead. Oh well... I never promised not to look!

Cyndi: I'll deliver this ring to your door for 550 dollars! Think how great it'll look on your finger as you ride on your new bike

Oh man...!! Yeah, that would look gorgeous on my hand... but it would have to be viewed while I was *walking* because that's a mite more than the bike I've promised myself... Darn. ;/ Good luck finding a new home for it... should it start raining money around here before then, I'd be more than happy to take it "off your hands". |
