Iceman - You have been kind to me. Hence let me share my experience with THE JEWLERY EXCHANGE, and outfit based in Tustin, CA (although they claim their in L.A., sixty miles away). They advertise on TV that you can compare their pruduct to Tiffany's at a fraction of the cost. "1 ct. stud earings: $399.00!" as they show a perfect pair of white stones. You go in the store, and there are so many suckers there that you literally have to take a number. An Army of Jabronees calls out as your number comes up. I say, "I'd like to see some stud earings." I'm told: we have two cases, the "better quality ones are here, and the less expensive ones are over there across the room." We start with the less expensive ones. All as yellow as this Jabronee's teeth, with flaws, feathers, and inclusions that dominate the dead little stones! "And garanteed to appraise for twice the price!" By the way... no 1 ct/ studs for $399 in the case. Anything that size was more expensive ~ $600. "O.K., so show me the "good" diamonds." 1 ct. rounds for $950. I ask, "what is the quality of these stones?" "Oh, we don't have certifications, and we can't tell you what the color or clarity is. But their garanteed to appraise for twice the price (then in a quick whisper, "up to $3000"). I ask, well how do you decide why this pair of 1 ct studs is $950 and that pair is $2250? Answer: Well, we have a guy who looks at them when they come in and he decides what to charge for them. I notice a price tag hanging out of the back of his shirt: 75 cents. These guys have about 40 Jabronee worker-bees at desks in their front window making jewelery, it's like watching the candy store make fudge in the front window. Except these diamonds are darker and don't sparkle as much. The sad thing is, they're absolutely jammed with business. And their website indicates that their expanding across the nation. (http://www.jewelryexchange.com) I guess they serve a certain market niche, but I pity the fools. Learning My Role, QuickStudy |

Sad story indeed. Classic example of consumers buying the price not a diamond. Don't people realize there's no such thing as a free lunch? Those diamonds are priced according to what they're worth; Jewelry Exchange isn't giving you a bargain (contrary to what they'd like you to believe) - what, you think they're a non-profit organization? If people wanted such a low price, at least go in with your eyes open. Did a quick check at Pricescope... anybody wants a pair of stones for a 1.13ct tw earrings? Stone #1 - 0.56ct L I1 $425. Stone #2 - 0.57ct L I1 $454. Both come with GIA reports. Throw in the posts and you'll still get a better pair of earrings for under $1000 than the junk at Jewelry Exchange. And at least you know what you're getting with the GIA cert. |

I agree. The JE in Tustin is crap. If only everyone knew about Diamond Talk the world would be a better place for diamond consumers! |

God bless Diamond Talk! As a consumer, the Jabronee quotient out there is just overwhelming. And the internet seems just as intimidating and hard to trust. This site is awesome, and should be the starting point for anybody in the market for nice stones. The Iceman and Rocdoc are an eye-opening inspiration. Integrity seems so hard to come by in this field. I'll post again when I complete a current trasaction, and provide some feedback on my experience with the folks here. In the mean time Rocdoc, I couldn't see his feet due to the size of his gut. Thanks to All QuickStudy |
