I am thinking of having my 14K yellow gold wedding rings "dipped" or "plated" to look like white metal. What would my choices be? Could I get a pure platinum dip? Also, how is this going to look over yellow gold. Will the plating rub off on the edges and will the YG show through? What should I expect? Should I not do this. Also, what if I change my mind down the road and want to go back to YG? Thanks for your help!

You cannot melt platinum over gold but you could electro plate rhodium to change the color from yellow to white. It does come off with time but the process should not be very expensive.

Thank you for the reply. I was advised against doing this by two different jewelers. They said I'd be able to see the yellow through the rhodium and that it would rub off sooner rather than later. So I'm not doing it. Thanks though.
