I have a .66 ct round cut diamond and looking to set it for an engagement ring. My girlfriend mentioned adding baguettes but when shopping around I found them to be very expensive. What is the ideal price per carat I should expect to pay for them?? Why are they so expensive? Is it worth the money putting them and can I substitute them for small round diamonds to complement the ring instead??

We bought my engagement ring this week and chose to forego the baguettes because of the high prices. We chose to just buy a better diamond rather than waste the money on baguettes. Also, many stores weren't able to offer us details of the diamonds in the baguettes. Many people choose baguettes because they lend a certain intricacy and aesthetic value to the ring. I found a Scott Kay mounting that was beautifully designed and gave me the intricacy I was seeking.
