Best Island for a Wedding? Suggestions/Warnings?

My father has offered my fiance and I a small destination wedding for just the immediate family. I was thinking perhaps somewhere in the tropics? I've never been there so all my information is anectdotal. This will be my first trip.

I'm afraid of having it in the carribean because I want my wedding to be more romantic and less "spring break" in feeling. So I was thinking of having it a little further south, more in the tropic zone.

Does anyone have an island experience to share? Has anyone had a negative experience anywhere? How about most romantic islands?

Any experiences you have to share would be much appreciated!!!

Post#2 @ 05-23-03 , 04:06 PM But I hear St. Barts is beautiful but expensive, St. Lucia, up and coming...and Aruba beautiful but more arid than tropic. win Oh yes, there's always St. Kitts. Personally I find the Isle of Skye near Scotland to be the most romantic.

Post#3 @ 05-23-03 , 04:21 PM I thought that perhaps I ought to add that I envisioned us getting married on the beach, with the waves lapping nearby, possibly at sunset (although sunrise would be more appropriate I don't think I could get everyone up and ready at that hour!) The fact that we would like to have the wedding on the beach is pretty relevant!
