I was just wondering something. I noticed a lot of people I know seem to ask their fiancee's sibling to be in their wedding party, even if they are not close. For instance, a groom will ask his fiancee's brother to be a groomsman, or the bride will ask her fiancee's sister to be a bridesmaid, even if they are not close at all. Is this common practice?
I have no siblings, so it's a non issue on my side. My fiancee has a brother. I get along with him fine and all, but I don't know him that well, and I definitely will not give up one of my closest friends as a groomsman just for the sake of having my fiancee's brother in the wedding.

Well, I am not yet married but I have been involved in 7 weddings in the past year. I think you should do whatever you want. If you are not close to your fiance's brother, then don't include him in the wedding party. Perhaps he could be an usher or a reader instead.

One wedding I was in the bride included her sister's husband in the wedding party...even though they weren't close. Now the sister and her husband are divorced....but he will forever be in all those wedding pictures!!!! It's YOUR day so do whatever you want!
