widths of bands
Quote this post and reply to it Post#1 @ 04-04-03 , 12:53 AM

The ring I'm looking to buy is 6.7 mm at top at baguettes 4.7mm in middle and 3.5 mm on bottom. What would be considered average or the middle road for width? My gf does not like thin bands but I want to make sure this is'nt too wide. Where can you find something to measure in metric? She has a ring that she wears and she told me that she would want the ring to be .75 to .5 the width, and I have to measure it. fyi my g/f ring size is 6.5.

I don't think 6.7 on a size 6.5 finger is too much. I too dislike thin bands and love thick ones. My ring is 5.5mm and I wear a size 3.5. It looks wider than most rings but it certainly doesn't look overly wide.

Do keep in mind what kind of wedding ring will go with it though. It will have to be pretty thin so she won't have a lot of options for design. If you were going to use plain or very simple bands though, there wouldn't be a problem.

I don't think it's too wide either. I prefer wider bands as well. As far as the wedding ring goes and if she wants a wide one she can always wear her engagement ring on the other hand. Many people wear them on separate hands.

the one i wear every day is 8mm wide, and i wear American size 6 ring.
my "dream ring" from Van Graff is 10mm wide, with the band, and i love it too. i just like wide bands.

I think the best thing would be for her to try the ring on her finger. Every ring will look different no matter how wide it is becasue the way they are designed. E-ring is not a plain band that you can measure very easily. Best bet would be to try it in person. She would be wearing it for a very long time, make sure she is happy with it.

Good Luck!

thanks for the responses my only concern is that the diamond is a little smaller in width its a 1.07 round and i dont want to take away from that. Im going to the city tommorrow to window shop.

if im still undecided ill have to take her to see the ring. i hinted that i thought it was too wide, and its a way above budget, i spent about my budget on the diamond! with my company possibly on strike in august im trying to be practical but its tough!

I think its too wide for my tastes and also agree to lessen it if she is wearing 2 rings. Just to give you an idea. Mr. Bella is going to wear a 6mm wedding band which looks very substancial and thick on his finger.

well i think im going to have something custome made that will be about 5mm by the baguettes then have two smaller princess cuts below. it will be about 4 mm wide on the side. thanks for all your input. I actually found a shop in diamond district that would sell that setting for 2650 cash and I would have paid it but I think my diamond was a little small for the setting.
