because you just might get it!!! For the past couple of months, I have been wishing I had another baby. My youngest is almost three and I found myself missing all of the baby things that she is outgrowing. Well, a few days I got my wish...there is a new baby at our house and I am back to mixing bottles and late night feedings. Here is a pic of the little darling... |

His name is Brewster and he had a tough start in life. A very long labor had left his mother very weak and exhausted, so after my husband "pulled" the calf; she had no interest in the poor little guy. We tried for several hours to get her to let him nurse, but she wouldn't. Brewster was also very weak after the birth and we honestly didn't think he would be alive by morning. He is a trooper however and the next morning was up frolicking around the stall making mischief. After a rough adjustment time with the bottle, he is now up to two quarts of calf milk replacer at every feeding and thoroughly convinced that my husband is his mother! I am head formula mixer and bottle washer, but ocassionally give him a bottle so he won't become too dependent on hubby. Normally, we sell our cows after they reach two to four years of age, but I have a feeling that Brewster will be around for a long time! |

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! He's cute! That's something for me to say. I don't usually like cows. I got chased by one when I was about 5. It ran my brother into a barbed wire fence. Needless to say, I haven't liked them since. But he is cute....congrats on the new baby! |

Thanks Jess! He is a real cutie, isn't he? When I was wishing for a baby, I never dreamed it would be Brewster!! Hubby and I have been married for almost seven years and in all that time we have never had a cow refuse her calf. Hubby has had cattle for many years and never had it happen either, so this is a new experience for both of us. Usually there is very little interaction between us and the cows. We feed them and that is about it. They aren't pets to us, so Brewster here has become the exception to the rule. |

Oh I think they are cute even when they are old! LOL! I just love animals. The only animals I don't really like are birds.. They kind of scare me.. LOL! Jess |

That is so funny Jess!! Afraid of a little bird and not a huge cow!!! I'm not afraid of the cows, but the bulls are another story!! They can be really mean, especially at certain times during the year, if ya know what I mean !

Well, I wasn't afraid of birds until I went to Florida one summer. We were eating at an open air restaurant and this bird literally speared the food off my aunt's plate.. I freak out every time I see birds now.. Even little ones.. LOL Jess |

My grandparents on both sides have always had cows. When I was little, we used to go to the neighbors dairy farm and help feed the babies almost daily. I agree, the cuteness wears off! I would never go near a bull, ever. We got chased by a female believe it or not. I think cows are big and scary now, can you imagine it as a 5 year old getting chased by one. My brother was very lucky that he didn't get seriously hurt. I don't hate cows, I guess you could say that I'm very leery of them. They are very sweet when they are babies though! |

My in-laws have a large diary operation in nearby WI. I enjoy going there and seeing the cows (they milk up to 200!) and the farm cats. So quiet there. The only sound other than the cows and the gentle whir of the fans in the barn is the electricity surging through the overhead lines. Amazing compared to the city. |

Oh! He is wonderful! More than I expected. You shouldn't have held out on me with this picture. Now I want one. Can you bring him to Texas for a visit in July for the wedding?

Oh, I just LOVE cows!! That is an adorable calf, AWWWWWWWWW...(I have to say it too) Good luck on bottle feeding, that is SO much work, and so time consuming. It IS just like having another human baby (well, almost) ![]() I've started the watch for my mare to foal too. She's not due until April 2, but I'll be she doesn't make it to the end of the week. I'm always nervous about what can go wrong, but I just LOVE babies too. Thanks for the pics!! |

Brewster is a darling Butterfly. Congrats on your new baby.KK

We are very lucky here, we have plenty of help feeding Brewster. My step-son and step-daughter live on the farm with their families and pitch in whenever they can. However, I have the milk here and am the only one who knows how to mix it. I have to remember to put the formula in the building where everyone can access it and teach them all to make it. I went out to dinner with my family from out of state this evening and had to come all the way home before going back to my mom's so I could fix the formula for my son-in-law to feed Brewster. We have four more cows ready to give birth at any time and I am hoping that everything goes well with them. It is so much better for them to be with the herd when they are young. I am afraid that Brewster will be an outcast by the time he is ready to join the others. Edited to add.... Txs, I think you and FH will just have to come here to WV for your honeymoon if you want to see Brewster!! I don't think he would fit in the overhead luggage compartment on the plane!
