Hi

For years, I have wanted the song by Bryan Adams and Barbra Streisand - "I finally found someone" as my first-dance wedding song ... I thought of its application the first time I heard it.

My fiancee's sister is getting married before us, though, and coincidentally chose the same song (fiancee is an identical twin, and both myself and the other FH are born on the same day of the year, although he is exactly one year older ... wonder if there's something in that :P).

So, for obvious reasons I now need to trash the idea of using that song, and choose something else...

What did you all use as your first dance song?

Thanks
Gary

We didn't have a wedding (we eloped), but we do provide video taping services for weddings and "From This Moment On" by Shania Twain and Bryan White seems to be a popular choice. Some have used it during the ceremony and others have used it as their first dance song; or for both. I personally prefer her solo version of the song, but the duet works nicely for weddings.

Best of luck to you and your beautiful lady! I saw the ring on another thread and it is gorgeous. Congratulations!!!

Do you care what kind of dance you do?
I've taught tons of wedding dances to couples... Here's some off the top of my head...

Foxtrot:
The Way You Look Tonight by Frank Sinatra
How Sweet It Is by Marvin Gaye
I Get A Kick Out Of You by Frank Sinatra

Waltz:
Open Arms by Journey
Can I Have This Dance by ?

General Slow Dance:
At The Beginning With You from Disney's Anastacia
My Valentine by Martina McBride
Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton
I Can't Help Falling In Love With You by Elvis
Could Not Ask For More - Edwin McCain
Don't Want To Miss A Thing - Aerosmith
From This Moment On - Shania Twain

There are tons more.

A few unsolicited opinions:
-Make sure it doesn't last too long, have the band or dj fade it at 2 minutes
-Make sure you can dance to it before you attempt it in front of your wedding guests. Give it at least a few trial runs even if you don't plan to do anything special.

If you want more suggestions, feel free to PM me

We danced to Bob Marley's "Is this Love". We couldn't really figure out any proper steps, so we kind of schlepped along to it and had a blast! It's such a sweet, hopeful song--I always smile whenever I hear it.

Okay, I am not married, but I love the song True Companion by Marc Cohn. I posted the lyrics below.

Baby I've been searching like everybody else
Can't say nothing different about myself
Sometimes I'm an angel
And sometimes I'm cruel
And when it comes to love
I'm just another fool
Yes, I'll climb a mountain
I'm gonna swim the sea
There ain't no act of God girl
Could keep you safe from me
My arms are reaching out
Out across this canyon
I'm asking you to be my true companion
True companion
True companion

So don't you dare and try to walk away
I've got my heart set on our wedding day
I've got this vision of a girl in white
Made my decision that it's you allright
And when I take your hand
I'll watch my heart set sail
I'll take my trembling fingers
And I'll lift up your veil
Then I'll take you home
And with wild abandon
Make love to you just like a true companion
You are my true companion
I got a true companion
True companion

When the years have done irreparable harm
I can see us walking slowly arm in arm
Just like the couple on the corner do
'Cause girl I will always be in love with you
And when I look in your eyes
I'll still see that spark
Until the shadows fall
Until the room grows dark
Then when I leave this Earth
I'll be with the angels standin'
I'll be out there waiting for my true companion
Just for my true companion
True companion
True companion

I also really like Amazed by Lonestar.

Every time our eyes meet
This feeling inside me
Is almost more than I can take
Baby when you touch me
I can feel how much you love me
And it just blows me away
I've never been this close to anyone or anything
I can hear your thoughts
I can see your dreams.

I don't know how you do what you do
I'm so in love with you, it just keeps getting better
I wanna spend the rest of my life with you by my side
Forever and ever
Every little thing that you do
Baby I'm amazed by you.

The smell of your skin
The taste of your kiss
The way you whisper in the dark
Your hair all around me, baby you surround me
You touch everyplace in my heart
Oh, it feels like the first time every time
I wanna spent the whole night in your eyes

I don't know how you do what you do
I'm so in love with you, it just keeps getting better
I wanna spend the rest of my life with you by my side
Forever and ever
Every little thing that you do
Baby I'm amazed by you.

Every little thing that you do
I'm so in love with you
It just keeps getting better
I wanna spend the rest of my life with you by my side
Forever and ever
Every little thing that you do
Oh, every little thing that you do
Baby I'm amazed by you.

Grow Old Along With Me

Imagine a very deep and s l o w sultry voice singing:

I've been so many places in my life and time

I've sung a lot of songs I've made some bad rhyme

I've acted out my love in stages

With ten thousand people watching

But we're alone now and I'm singing this song for you

I know your image of me is what I hope to be

I've treated you unkindly but darlin' can't you see

There's no one more important to me

Darlin' can't you please see through me

Cause we're alone now and I'm singing this song for you

You taught me precious secrets of the truth withholding nothing

You came out in front and I was hiding

But now I'm so much better and if my words don't come together

Listen to the melody cause my love is in there hiding

I love you in a place where there's no space or time

I love you for in my life you are a friend of mine

And when my life is over remember when we were together

We were alone and I was singing this song for you

We were alone and I was singing this song for you

It had to be you . . .

I had the Harry Connick Jr. version of It Had to be You, but if I had to do it again, I would use Frank Sinatra's recording.

My friends who got married a year after us also used it, we were flattered! I think if you were planning on the song "I Finally Found Someone" you should use it. I bet very few people will remember it from the previous wedding.

We went to a wedding of one of my hubbie's friends, and they had "Let's Get it On" by Marvin Gaye as their first song. Hmmmm . . . would not go over well with MY family.

Incidently, "our" song is "Wicked Game" by Chris Isaak. Not at all appropriate for a first song, so we had to scramble too. I think we felt more emotion dancing later in the evening to that song than to our first song since this one had more meaning.

Song for You

Howdy!
A Song for You was written by the late Donny Hathaway - one of the greatest soul singers of the '70's. His life came to a tragic end when he fell out of a window at the Hotel Essex in NYC. You may remember him as accompanying Roberta Flack on some tunes - You've Got a Friend, You've Lost that Loving Feeling, Where is the Love, You're My Heaven, His hits expand to The Ghetto, Je Vois Aime, Little Ghetto Boy, I'll Love You More Than You'll Ever Know,

A Song for You as been done by Ray Charles, Leon Russell, and the Temptations as well as the Carpenters.

Beautiful piano introduction and a melody that haunts as well as words of a poet. Such a love song.....

The Way You Look Tonight by Frank Sinatra

This is my choice too. To me it says how much you love her and how special this day is to you & always will be. You can slow dance to it too.

EllisAnn,

I agree with you. I LOOOOOVE this song! It's beautiful, sexy, and soulful! It's very touching!

I think all the songs mentioned would be great first-dance songs, but "At Last" is my personal favorite!

I used Amazed by Lonestar the first time around. Really pretty song.

This time, I do believe I'll be using Everything I Do, by Bryan Adams.

As my wife is called Margaret, we had "Maggie" by Rod Stewart.

Some thought it highly inappropriate - especially as it includes the line "Maggie, I wish I'd never seen your face!" - but we thought it was hilarious!!

My husband and I danced to Your Song from the Moulin Rouge soundtrack! I realy didn't think of as a wedding song but it was fun and it was us.

We mostly had Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack songs and old time music as we were in Vegas.

Popular songs I have heard:

It's Your Love -Tim and Faith
Everything I Do - Bryan Adams
Endless Love- ???

I like The Best is Yet to Come - Frank Sinatra.

The Best is Yet to Come - Lyrics

Out of the tree of life, I just picked me a plumb
You came along and everything started to hum
Still it's a real good bet, the best is yet to come

The best is yet to come, and won't that be fine
You think you've seen the sun, but you ain't seen it shine

Wait till the warm-up is underway
Wait till out lips have met
Wait till you see that sunshine day
You ain't seen nothin' yet

The best is yet to come, and won't that be fine
The best is yet to come, come the day that your mine

Come the day that your mine
I'm gonna teach you to fly
We've only tasted the wine
We're gonna drain that cup dry

Wait till your charms are right, for the arms to surround
You think you've flown before, but you ain't left the ground

Wait till you're locked in my embrace
Wait till I hold you near
Wait till you see that sunshine place
There ain't nothin' like it here

The best is yet to come, and won't that be fine
The best is yet to come, come the day that your mine

What kind of dance do you use for the songs "At Last" and "It had to be you"?

We want to Waltz for our first dance but not sure if these songs are appropriate for it?
