In spite of my lengthy thread about my custom ring job, I'm trying to move on to happier thoughts although things are not yet resolved.

I'm curious, I've seen a lot of radiant cut diamonds with other radiants (in 3 stone settings) and radiant's with trilliants on either side. What other fancy shapes look good/match as side stones for a radiant cut diamond?

All opinions, pics, and ideas appreciated

I like faceted trapazoids. They taper down the finger nicely without the sharp points like trillions. I'll post a picture of them with a radiant cut center when I get to work later....

Brilliant Cut Trapezoids

Very popular.

A Three Stone Radiant and Trapezoid Brilliant Diamond Ring

I'm starting on another one for a 3 carat center stone tomorrow.
I'll try to remember to post pics of the complete piece.

You can always check out our Ring Gallery as we are constantly updating the section with finished pieces.

I should mention that there are also Step-Cut Trapezoids but that they seem to go better with similarly faceted center stones, Asschers or emeralds although some like the contrast created.

Personally, I think only radiant stones match radiants well. Maybe I have particularly sharp eyes because non-radiant stones do not match radiants well at all; the cuts are too different, as the radiant-cut is very distinct, I think.

If you have a particularly nice radiant, I don't think you need accent stones at all. A nice stone makes a gorgeous solitaire ring.

No offense Empressa, but I completely disagree with you. I think there are other shapes out there that compliment the Radiant very well. Sorry my dear, I have 4 eyes, & they arent sharp at all. Age I suppose.

Hi all thanks for the suggestions and pics! Does anyone think that other square or rectangular modified cuts like the new Regent cut, Whiteflash's Spring cut, or Lucere cut would go well with a radiant? I wish I could see them lined up together to see if they would go, but I have a feeling that maybe none of these would match with the radiant.

Suching and Jan - what gorgeous rings!

Suching - where is the half moon diamond ring from? I have only heard about this cut and never seen it till now.

I DEFINITELY think trillions go with radiants. They have the same "look." I don't think that I would like radiants with say, princess cuts or rounds.

No offense taken, Ccuheartnurse. You're entitled to your wrong opinion. I have no problems with that!

Actually, I notice that many radiants are accented with non-radiant stones, but to my nit-picky eyes, they don't seem to match. The facet-action (sparkling effect) is different between the cuts. That bugs me.

I guess I'm entitled to my wrong opinion, too, because I think trilliants and radiants are a match made in diamond heaven. I have also long admired how they look with half-moons.

HK - what is the specification of your radiant?
Quote this post and reply to it Post#19 @ 01-06-03 , 07:09 AM

HK - what is the specification of your central stone...?

I went engagement ring browsing this weekend with a girlfriend who is looking...she tried on a number of rings with a central radiant diamond. However, we both noticed with our untrained consumer eyes that with just a "white" diamond central radiant and trillion side stones there seemed an apparent "colour difference" i.e. the central stone looked darker than the trillions in most cases...sometimes this was because they had used a lower colour central (e.g. I in Tiffanies of all places)...other times even when the colours of the sides were the same and high quality as the central (e.g. D/F in Gerrards) they looked lighter...maybe because the trillions we saw were very thin?

I hate to agree with Empresseva but we didn't notice this problem when we saw rings with half-moon or other square-cut side stones!

Of course if your central already has some colour (so that you can go for contrasting side stones) then you will not need to worry about this issue.

By the way, as we are in London - the shops we browsed were: the new de Beers store, Tiffany, Asprey, Gerrard and David Morris.

The best solution would be for you to get the same shape for the side stones with the same color and clarity.
Just made one with a 3.69 hvvs2 rad.center, and two side stones that are also rad. in hvs1 2=1.81tw. in platinum! and it is beautiful!!
(I 'll have a picture of it later on in this thread)
Therefore no descrepency as they are all the same shape color and clarity!
(even though I have made many that are with trillions as long as they are the same color there should not be a difference!!)

good luck

Hi Indiraxyz, the radiant is a colored gemstone, so fortunately I don't have to worry about color matching

Have you ladies seen Jay-Z's vidion "Excuse Me"? Well, he's giving his girl a huge yellow square shaped stone diamond ring, and i think it has half-moon stones on the sides. Ever since seeing that i'm set on buying one just like it. I started to design a ring with trillions, but find myself swinging towards half-moons. They are rare, and just give that "rich" and realistic look to them. I haven't seen any CZ jewelery use those shapes, so that makes it very believable.

Radiant side stones
Quote this post and reply to it Post#24 @ 05-02-03 , 10:34 PM

I put together a 1.25 Oval w/ a pair of "fat" 0.50 ct pears. I expect they would do as well next to a radiant in proper proportion. This would also eliminate the problem with a botched job of making the edges parallel- radiant to trillions as seen in picture posted previously.
