Clarity VS Color

Hi! I was wondering what you think about this: Is it better to get an included diamond that is VERY white or a more yellow diamond that is slightly included? |

Using only those two criteria I'd rather see colour than see inclusions. |

Just my opinion. I feel color is more important than clarity as long as the clarity is eye clean. In other words I would choose an E, SI1 (eye clean) over a J, VVS1. You won't notice the clarity with out looking through a loupe, but can notice the color. Color is also subjective, some people may actually prefer the slightly warmer color J diamond. Face up color is less noticable in a well cut round brilliant. Of course the quality of cut is more important than color or clarity. |

A balance of both w/ consideration of carat & cost - and above all cut needs to enter the equation as a well cut stone can hide flaws & color. |

I would step down in clarity grade; so long as the diamond is eye clean (SI1 or better), in favor of a higher color grade. The better color grade will be noticeable, whereas the clarity grade will not.

I, too, would pick color over clarity. I would choose the color that you like with the best possible clarity. As said before, color is subjective- and the setting can have a lot to do with it too. So shop around, pick the color you like, and then find one that is eye clean. Not many people carry around a loupe to check your stone

to me as long as it is eye clean who cares. And that the inclusions make no dull spots in the sparkle. Why pay for what you can't see?? As for color I see no color in my "I" colored AGS certed diamond. But I would go no lower than an I personally just to be sure. I think most people would be happy with an H SI1 (eye clean) or better. Though 85% would take an I SI1 happily. And many here have. Now the bigger the diamond the more the color shows. But G/H should still be great even in very large stones. |

Thanks to you all for your answers! The reason I was asking is I have a pair of princess cut 1/2ctw champagne diamonds that only have 2 inclusions in them that can only be seen with a loupe with close inspection. You really have to look to see the inclusions in these diamonds. On the other hand I also have a pair of round cut 1.75ctw WHITE diamonds that look very stunning until you look at them with the loupe. They are just EATEN UP with carbon inside!! OH MY GOD!! However, you cannot see the inclusions at all unless you look at them with the loupe. I get more AHHH Factor response from people with my white diamonds than with the champagne diamonds, even though I usually consider the champagne diamonds to be "better". |

ahhh but those are specialty color not just low grade (or what I like to call pale urine color diamonds) There is a big difference.

I thought I was just color sensitive (I have been tested by a local jeweler and can see the difference between a G and H). But I received a GIA graded Si1, D color princess in the mail and was able to see a yellowish looking inclusion that looked like a scab someone had picked off, located right under the table. It was a tiny tiny little thing but I could see it with some effort at very close range in diffused daylight. I was horrified. I could also see some tiny little pin points from the side. The major reputable company I bought from declared it was "absolutely eye-clean. The finest eye-clean Si1 I will find". Well I've got perfect vision...Ive always had eyes like a hawk, and i should have taken that into consideration. So now I am very sensitive about clarity, and don't want any visible birthmarks! I am paranoid about the GIA graded VS2 I have on my finger right this minute. Although I try just not to look at it extremely closely in daylight because I don't want any inclusions to ruin my love for this otherwise gorgeous diamond I found at a great price. So now, I must have F and up, Vs2 and up diamonds.... Although i wonder if I would ever start to love the warmer colors like H, I, J... I bet I would fancy them eventually after collecting more diamonds. |
