Hey Gemstone experts,
I saw this on one of the TV gem shows. Neil Kopel of K&G Creations (jewelery manufacturer) was saying they are the only ones doing this process of melting the leftover rough from gem cutting rubies, emeralds, and sapphires. they are then recut into stronger (?) prettier (?) stones.

Okay, experts please explain this process and give opinions about their worth, because the rings were outrageously expensive. Isn't this same process used on all lab-created gems??

thanks, irish

Your talking about shopathome. I've seen the rings. They are set with moissanite. The prices are outrageous.

I thought so. Thanks for taking the time to answer. So would another simulated stone made via flame fusion, be comparable with cutting being the same on both stones???

Yes Jan,
I was, and you're right. I hold onto my pennies, but was just curious about the hoopla being given.

CHATHAMS GROWS NATURAL LOOKING GEM
CRYSTALS FROM SEEDED PIECES OF THE ORIGINAL NATURAL GEM..BUT UNDER LAB CONDITIONS..

SYNTHETICS OF ANY OTHER KIND ARE
STILL GROWN OR FORMED IN SOME TYPE OF PROCESS.. THIS IS THE ORIGINATION PROCESS FOR THE GEM MATERIAL.. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH " RECONSTITUTION"

RECONSTITUTION > THEY TAKE THE PURE CLEAN
WASTE FROM CUTTING A SPECIFIC MATERIAL..AND EITHER CHEMICALLY..OR
OTHERWISE..LIKE INTENSE HEAT.. MELT AND REFORM THE WASTE MATERIAL INTO A
SOLID SPRUE OR CRYSTAL..AND RECUT IT AGIAN. ITS NOT THAT ITS CHEAPER THAN THE FIRST RUN.. IT JUST ALLOWS THE OVERALL COST OF THE PRODUCT TO BE KEPT LOW THRU LOW CAPITAL LOSS DUE TO WASTED MATERIAL..THIS SOMETIMES RESULTS IN
SEEING IMPERFECTIONS OR INCLUSIONS WITHIN THE MATERIAL.. IT IS IN FACT A LOWER GRADE BUT IS SOMETIMES SOLD AT A PREMIUM BECAUSE OF ITS CLOSER RESEMBLANCE TO THE NATURAL GEM..
THERE WERE ALOT OF EMERALD GREEN CZ'S
ON THE MARKET A FEW YEARS BACK CALLED
RENZITES.. THEY WERE AWESOME TO BEHOLD.. I PERSONALLY PUT A 8 CT PEAR
IN THE HANDS OF A GIA GEMOLOGIST.. AND HE VERBALLY APPRECIATED IT AS A NICE LOOKIN EMERALD... HE REFUSED TO BELEIVE IT WAS CZ.. I WON A STEAK LUNCH OVER THAT ONE FROM HIM...HEHEHE..

I do professional jewlery repairs
and creations,for the enjoyment and
fufillment it adds to my life..working with natures most attractive objects..gold-silver-platinum-gems and gemstones..I wont do it as an everyday job that would take the enjoyment of special moments out of it,it would just become 9 to 5

James - I'm afraid of a gemoligist who thinks a cz is an emerald. Weird.

And by the way....STOP YELLING!!!!!
