And what a long, strange trip it's been! I'm sure many of you have read about what happened to my engagment ring (a 1.52 carat J colored VVS2 radiant) in other threads, and that I was looking to trade for a 1.55 G colored I1 round. Well, I received that ring on Thursday, and the stone was beautiful. However, it had an indented natural right off the girdle, and would have driven me nuts! I called Gary Weiss (the dealer in NYC that I was dealing with), and he immediately told me to send it back, and offered to find me a better stone. To make a long story short, the new ring just arrived, and I am MESMERIZED!!! I got a 1.61 carat K colored VS1 center stone, with two baguettes on the side (.28 carat total on the baguettes). The stone measures 7.62 x 7.67 x 4.63, 59% table and 60.7% depth, medium faceted girdle, no culet, no flourescence. My little blue scope shows the arrows perfectly, and the light return is amazing. I am so thrilled with this ring I almost cried when I opened the box! I would never had thought to even look at a K color, but since I've always loved warm stones I gave it a shot. I'm glad I did. I will still have to have the ring appraised by my own jeweler, but I know this one is a keeper. It sparkles so much more than my radiant ever did, and I'm having fun watching the rainbows dance around from every angle I turn this ring. I feel like I have my own twinkling star sitting on my hand. And the best part, after all the twists and turns in my search for my perfect stone I didn't have to spend any money! Gary traded me my stone for this completed ring, and although I had to pay for shipping of my stone and the return of the first ring he sent, thanks to the screwup with the dealer in Chicago I actually wound up with a little money since he sent me money for my troubles. The picture doesn't do justice to the stone since I don't have a good focus on my camera, but you get the idea. |

Congrats DA. I am very happy to hear a happy ending. I was feeling sick about the situation for you too. Enjoy, wear it in good health. |

RE : The end of my quest!
Congrats, Diamondangel. I'm very glad that you are happy with your ring, at long last. You must be very relieved to have all the drama of looking over with. Are you still going to have your old sidestones made into earrings, or have Juan fix your old mounting? Just curious, you had such generous offers of help! |
|

DA: A big congrats!! ^_^ There is absolutely nothing wrong with K colors! I've been eyeing one or two stones lately with supreme cuts that are in the K range. I, too, like the warmer colors. Wear your beautiful ring in good health! |

Thank you very much!
It's still a hard decision. The problem is that I really like the look of a delicate band so as to show off the center stone, and unless Juan has a better way of doing the head (carriage style crown), my diamond is going to look like it's sunk down into the ring. I don't like that. I'll send my mounting to Gin to pass off to Juan, and see what he says once he sees it. I'm thinking it would be best to have it set with all VG stones...perhaps a Flander's in the center? Meanwhile, I really like the Winston style mounting that the round is in...but that means I would need to have another band made to fit it. Oye! Another option would be to wait until I can afford the Tiffany Cathedral setting from BTD...and that setting would go perfectly with my current wedding band. Whatever route we take, I will never get rid of my wedding band. That is what I have sentimental attachments to. I'm just thrilled to have a diamond that I really love! |

Congrats DA! You have said over and over how you like "warm" stones, so I am SOO glad you found one that makes you go gaga ![]() I too love RB's, I just didn't know it... My poor little pear just doesn't have it compared to a RB...But, it's sentimental as is your wedding band. I'm REALLY happy for you!! |
|

It's beautiful!
I'm glad you're happy with the ring; hell, who wouldn't be? It's gorgeous! I know that I'm not going to be the one to wear this ring (sure wish I were!), but if I were you I'd keep it in its present setting, matching band issues and all. There's nothing like a classic, and this sure is one! |

Thank you all. I'm thrilled, and I'm sure when Bill sees it he'll love it too. He's a little disappointed that we won't have my original engagement diamond, but I'm sure when he sees it he'll understand why I wanted to get a round instead. The picture below is not my ring, but it is very close to how my ring looks close up. My stone is a bit warmer than the one pictured. |

Diamondangle, Good for you!! I love your setting (probably because I have the same one!). I'm happy to hear of a trade/upgrade that went well, and after all of your problems that you are happy. I will give your dealer a call when I am set to do my upgrade. Wear it in good health! |

DA
Since I know you like the OMC and the OEC...what made you settle on the round...was it the maximum brilliance factor? I love my princess cut, but after looking at some truly *WOW* rounds, especially on here....I believe I will be happier with a round, and probably warmer than my G..... I am SOOO undecided. |

Congrats, DA! I'm so happy something good came from that mess with your orignal ring. It looks stunning on your finger! Wear it in good health. |

Three factors: 1. Money. 2. No one was willing to trade my radiant for an OEC because most people who deal with the older cuts deal exclusively with the older cuts (at least the people that I've spoken with). 3. Brillance. And after getting my round, I know that everything happened as it should. The sparkle from the round is amazing! As I was getting dressed a little while ago, I saw rainbows shooting off my diamond in my foggy bathroom mirror, and I could not help but giggle! I've decided that I want to get the problems fixed with my setting, swap out the sapphires for VGs, and put the round in the custom setting we had made. If ANYONE can help me with this, I know Juan can. |
