I am looking to purchase a diamond tester but was wondering which ones are the best, ideally I would like to buy a diamond / moissanite tester in one for a max of 120$ if that isn't enough then just a good diamond tester.
I would appreciate any advice possible. Thanks in advance.
There are many diamond testers on the market, most of these are based on the thermal conductivity of diamond being higher than most of the other materials used to simulate it. A tiny hot point is placed on the stone and the rate at which it cools is measured by the instrument which "bleeps" if the stone is diamond. Regrettably there is now some lab. Made stones which also give a "diamond" reading.
I'm pretty loyal to Presidium equipment and they make several different models that'll do this but I think they're all over your budget. GemOro makes a cheaper one. May I ask why you want the 'moissante' feature? They're pretty easy to spot with a loupe, most people rarely see them, and it doubles the price of the tool. It makes sense if you have a bunch of employees and training is an issue but if it's for your own benefit, just learn to use a loupe, which you probably already have. It's not that hard.
