Newbie to automatic mechanical watch, in need of help!!!
Quote this post and reply to it Post#1 @ 08-06-11 , 11:05 PM

I recently bought my first watch that costs more that $25, it's an Emporio Armoni AR4647, I'll post a link to it at the bottom. I read online that when you winde an automech watch fully, and leave it sit, it should last 24-40 hours. Well mine seems to last anywhere from 4-6 hours. I wore it once out on the town and it worked all night perfectly, so the auto winde works perfectly. When I manually winde it, I go until I feel just the slightest bit of resistance, then I stop, I read online this is how you do it. Out of ignorance, I turned the minute hand back just barely to get the second and minute hand to align perfectly, I've read later online that turning the minute hand back is bad, could this be the cause for the problem? Because this is somewhat of a skeleton watch, i can see the spring on the inside, before winding the spring is very loose, after winding the spring is somewhat tight, but not as tight as when i first got it, and the gears dont seem to spin as fast after a few hours. Could it be that Im not winding it up enough manually? How much would it cost to fix at a jeweler? Should I just try to exchange it for the same model even though I bought it through an online site? Any help would be appreciated!

Probably not being wound enough if you are stopping winding at the "slightest but oif resistance" that is likely to be insufficient wind.

Unless the date is changing turning the minute hand backwards is not an issue
