If you aggressively scraped it with a steel file, sure it will wear out because you would then be cleaving off pieces of it. BUT platinum is so dense that you are merely displacing the atoms from one place to another if you normally scrape or bump it against your tiles or even granite items in your house. The same can't be said about gold or silver.

With scratches platinum has to be buffed harder than gold taking one layer away every time. Gold can be rhodium dipped and lightly buffed with minimal effects. In my opinion gold is a wiser investment.
