Guidelines for buying an OEC (Old European Cut)
, 04:56 PM
Hello. I'm a new member here.
I recently started looking at OECs as a possible center stone in my upcoming anniversary ring project.
I realized that while I love OECs, I don't know much about them. A lot of the diamond literature seems geared towards the modern round brilliant and that info doesn't seem to apply to OECs.
So I'm looking for some pointers:
Are there any standards or even informal guidelines for evaluating the quality of a cut?
Who are some reputable vendors? Online is OK, even preferred. I'm looking at Old World Diamonds now.
Most OECs I've seen are EGL-graded but I know that EGL is not as highly regarded for modern round brilliants as GIA or AGS. Does the same hold true for OECs?
Any thing else I should be aware of?
Thanks so much in advance. I'm looking forward to reading your responses.

i'd say follow your instinct, don't over analyse the cut, but rather judge it with your eye and heart.
as for the other quality characteristics, use the same standards as for a round cut.
i have a few articles on OECs in my blog, hope the link is allowed!
