Noob who can't decide, .5ct princess diamond, or 1 ct ASHA simulant, thoughts?

Hi all, fairly new lurker who is seeking advice. I recently impulse bought the following setting:

https://majewelrydesigns.com/rings_diamond%20engagemen t%20wedding%20ring%20sets _wr-130ma.html#

My soon to be fiancee fell in love with a similar setting that was recently being sold at Zales, but i didn't like that one. The one she saw hada .2 ct K color diamond with side stones, and the whole setting (including wedding and) had only .5ct in diamonds. SO, i looked long and hard to find something similar, but better.

So, when i found the ring above, i immediately bought it, with the intentions of putting a .5ct princess in it. When it arrived, i realized it was a HUGE setting, made for a 1 ct diamond. The jeweler who sold me the ring has offered to re-cast it at no charge to me, with the proper prongs to fit a .5 ct princess diamond.

My girl has told me she has no problems with simulants (she brought it up).

I have spent a lot of time recently lurking and reading about reader experiences with ASHA stones, and I really like the Flanders cut. So, long story short (i know, its too late for that)...

I am trying to decide if i should re-cast the ring and get her a .5ct natural princess (prob I, VS2), or if i should keep the ring as-is, and put a 1 ct Flanders ASHA.

I am at a fork in the road, and can't decide which way to go.

Thanks in advance for your opinions!

Well, if there is no time constraint and the jeweler offered no charge t redo it, I would re-cast the setting for your original plans and get the real princess diamond. There is no comparison for the real thing. Ashas look nice, but they are essentially well cut CZs with a diamond coating on the top. Overtime the Asha may wear and you would have to replace it anyway. A diamond withstands average wear better and an excellent cut princess is breathtakingly beautiful. I think your girlfriend would appreciate the real diamond in the end even though she expressed it did not matter either way.

I agree with Brit. Additionally the setting you've might be kind of tricky for the points of a princess cut anything.

I realize i forgot to mention finances, which was the whole reason i was considering this. i'm a man of limited means, worried I will overstretch myself by buying a 1,000 diamond on credit, whereas the ASHA I would just buy outright.

and Irish, the jeweler I bought the ring from has told me to send the ring back, and he will make a new ring exactly the same, but with the prongs for a .5 princess, so that doesn't worry me. (that was another reason I was considering putting a 1 ct flanders ASHA, i won't need to have the ring completely remade)

I would go for the real diamond. Most likely, you'll want/need to replace the simulant quite soon and then you may decide to buy the diamond then anyway... Replacing the simulant every time it starts to go dull will be expensive and could damage the ring.

I would get the real diamond too. When a woman says it's "OK", usually it's not completely OK. In the end, it's not the size that counts but the thought. And I would love a diamond of any size much more than a CZ.

I don't agree with the real is always better.

I told my fiance that I didn't care what had I for a ring, as long as it was given to me with his full heart and love, and promise of a long future together.

Just because a diamond is the standard and has been overly, ridiculously advertised as the only choice for an engagement ring is ridiculous to me.

Honestly, I love sapphires and emeralds much much more than a diamond.

My fiance surprised me with a sapphire ring and I love him even more for not going with the general public and getting me something everyone else thinks is best that I wouldn't have actually liked as much.

HOWEVER, I do not know your girlfriend and do not know the context in which it was discussed. If she brought up only because she feels guilty about splurging on it, but secretly wants a real diamond, then i would DEFINITELY without a doubt get the real one because she will appreciate it much more than a fake and will really truly believe that she is worth that much to you.

I hope all that rambling makes sense.
