Well... I have been lurking here for the past few weeks and I gotta say that this site has helped me a whole bunch. My diamond search began with studying the 4c's and then searching through hundreds of diamonds on the web and visiting local stores. It is funny how my diamond was actually selected... I was still going to try some of the referrals from this forum, but my girlfriend caught me looking for rings. It turns out, that she found a stack of printouts of various diamonds. She found one and she said WOW (she was referring to the IF clarity). So.. that was the winner. I probably could have gotten a little better diamond for the price, but this was the one that stuck out at her. It will arrive Monday and I know this will offend some of you, but yeah... she did pick one from Blue Nile. Here are the specs.
Round Brilliant
weight: .83 ct.
Cut: Ideal
Color: H
Clarity: IF
Depty% 62.3
Table% 57%
Symmetry: Very Good
Polish: Very Good
Girdle: Slightly Thick to Medium, Faceted
Culet: None
Flouresence: None
Measurements: 6.05x5.99x3.75 mm
I had it set in the Tiffany style six prong platinum ring.

I hope this is a decent diamond, but you know what they say... the one that jumps out at you (her), is the one you pick.
Thank you all for all the help... even if all I did was lurk.

CONGRATULATIONS on your purchase!! I am a firm believer that you can read stats on diamonds till you're blue in the face, but in the end what matters THE MOST is what you fall in love with. She's gonna wear it, so whatever makes her happy right? Don't second guess your purchase, its what she wanted and your HEART was in the right place. :-) Much happiness to you both!!

Congratulations! Sounds as though you got your WOW effect! Whether it is from the cut or the clarity doesn't matter as much as getting it!

Good Job. Happy for you. I also bought from Blue Nile. I like them despite some of the things that are said about them.
Congrats.

There is the HCA thing on pricescope.com How Do I get the crown angle and the pavilion angle??? I don't think they are on the GIA report. Just for kicks, I wanted to enter the diamond in and see what comes out.
Oh yeah... Inquisitive... I know this is not a sports board... but we got one heck of a recruiting class this year eh?

Hi Auburn, congratulations on your purchase. To get the measurements for the stone to put into the HCA, you have to call Blue Nile, talk to one of their customer service reps, and ask them to find and fax you or call you back with the sarin or megascope report information. If there is not a sarin or megascope report already on file for that stone, ask the customer service rep to have the gemologists do one for you and get back to you with the details.

From another AU grad. How about Tiger (War Eagle VI) at the opening ceremony?

Congrats on the purchase. Now if you have been lurking, then you know that we want to know the details of the proposal also.

Ruth
