you both. I do not think that the size of a diamond should be a pre-requisite for marriage.

Empressiva, I think your ring is absolutely gorgeous, however, if you would have been angry as hell if you didn't get at least 1 carat, then I think that is considered MATERIALISTIC! Don't get me wrong, because I am not judging anyone. But we here at diamondtalk are entitled to our own opinions, and this just happens to be mine.

No hard feelings. (smile)

Well, you *are* a self-proclaimed diamond slut, no? Good for you Cheryl! I did see one of your acquisitions; the oval one -- very pretty. I am waffling over whether or not I want a super-ideal diamond or a Bernina Artista 180E sewing/embroidery machine.

On the other hand, a new fast car would be nice.

Maria

MariaD,
I seriously have personally never known a woman to DEMAND a diamond as a pre-requisite to marriage. I live in one of the most expensive regions in the country so of course I've heard those types existed, but THANK GOD none of my friends are like that. I think women who are like that are not only materialistic but have no concept of what marriage is really about. That is so sad that they would demand a certain size stone etc. When my husband proposed, I cared more about the fact that I was going to spend the rest of my life with the man I love then the diamond on my finger. Although, I must admit, I did also love my ring

I do...my mom! She asked for a one carat, or she wouldn't marry my dad. He got her a 1.5 carat round with 1/4 carat baguettes on either side...plus a diamond insert guard. Her reasons? 1. If Dad couldn't afford to get her a carat, he wasn't going to be able to support her; and 2. That was her security blanket. She wound up having to sell the engagement set when I was 9 years old due to medical bills and my father's car died. That set paid off a lot of bills, bought a new car for my father, and there was a little left over to put towards my Catholic school tuition.

They'll be married 40 years on April 29th of this year.

Garry, I don't mean to be dense, but could you please explain this a little more?
