Best Custom Ring Jeweler for Moissanite?
Hi Guys, My question is immediately below, the explanation comes after: I'm looking for honest experiences of people who have had custom moissanite rings made. Awesome experiences, horror stories, everything... If posting names of jewelers isn't kosher with the website's terms, please PM me. I need to find an excellent jeweler that I can trust =) I'm gonna do my best to keep this short, but I surprise myself at how excited (and how wordy) I get when it comes to finally taking on this process. My girlfriend and I have gone ring shopping for fun, I get a thrill out of it every time... I can't wait to marry this girl. The complication comes from the fact that she isn't into diamonds. She likes the look of diamonds, but she gets hung-up on "what else we could do with all that money!" She wants a diamond free ring, so that's what she's going to get. She heard about Moissanite a few years ago and has steered me in that direction. I went back to the jeweler where we saw the ring she fell in love with, I tracked down the ring, and I have digital images of the ring... so now I need to find a skilled jeweler that can re-create this ring (check attachments) using only moissanite stones Another problem is that I'm going to be out of the country for the next 12 months, save about 3 weeks in July-August where she and I will go on a vacation... this is where I plan to pop the question. This means that almost all of this will have to be done over the internet... Thanks for reading all of this, I look forward to hearing from you guys. |

Forgot to add this important question: What's the largest ct.wt. you would recommend as the center stone for this setting, given that it will be moissanite? Is there a way to pay more $$ for a stone that would be comparable in color to an "I" grade diamond? |

I've made a lot of moissanite rings over the years and I've never seen one which was lower in color than about H or I. If you want one which is about that color, then you're in luck since that's how they come. If you want less color, then you're stuck, since they don't make them. You could conceivably get a darker color just by re-cutting one, (the last four or five of these that I've re-cut have turned a slightly brownish color. I think that Charles and Colvard is doing some kind of surface treatment to make the stones whiter looking). I would recommend a center stone sized so that it's believable for that size of diamond. In other words, if you and your lady are not in the lifestyle category of owning a 3 carat diamond you probably won't have anyone believing that the 3 carat size moissanite she's wearing is a diamond. If you don't care about all that, then you should get whatever size she likes. The setting that you've shown is very easy to make and is one of those styles that lends itself to CAD modeling. This is nice since you can see what you're getting and change anything which doesn't suit you, before you've spent a lot of money. This eliminates any possibility of having the wrong ring show up...not a good thing when you've got a short time line for the proposal. Oh, one thing, the smallest moissanite available is 1.75mm in diameter, so the stones in the band beneath the center stone would need to be real diamond, as they are definitely smaller than 1.75mm. If you'd like more information, would like to see a rendered model of this or would even like to discuss having me make this for you, just drop me an E-mail and we can discuss it. |

my center canary (treated) moissanite is 5cts 10mmx10mm. It is STUNNING and looks more 'diamondy' than many many canary diamonds I have seen!!! |
