I'm helping a friend of mine try to sell her engagement and wedding ring, she has an appraisal but obviously that doesn't mean too much.
The wedding band is platinum with 12 princess cut diamonds in the channel setting. .65ct total weight.
The engagement ring has 10 princess cut diamonds in the channel setting. .50ct total. The center stone is a round cut 2.05ct.
Center stone is graded as an SI1 color I.
These figures are taken from the private appraisal which was valued at $27,000 total in 2006. The only thing she can't find is a GIA cert from the center stone.
Any idea what these would be worth on the private market? She would like to sell them fairly quickly and isn't holding out for top dollar.

Your friend needs an appraisal that DOES mean something. Find a real appraiser. In mmost cases with stones like this, especially if she's planning on selling in the private marketplace, she's going to NEED that GIA report. It may be possible to get a copy from GIA if it actually exists and if you can figure out the number from previous documents but without it, expect strong resistance from buyers. It's worth considering submitting the stone for a new exam if she can't find the existing documents. The appraiser can hep or she can submit it herself. Info on how to do it are at www.gia.edu.
