What does 8162 stamped on my diamond solitaire ring mean?
Quote this post and reply to it Post#1 @ 11-28-10 , 01:57 PM

I have a pear shaped diamond solitaire ring with a 14k stamp and 8162. Can you please tell me what the 8162 means? Thank you

It's probably a model number for the manufacturer
who made it. There isn't anything in the USPTO database for that mark.

It's an estate piece that I bought. Could the number 62 mean the size of the pear solitaire? I bought it at as a 73 point diamond.

I doubt it, the band and the head look like they are different colors and the stamp was probably done prior to installing the head. There's really no way of knowing what that number means, (they may have just put it there to confuse people in the future...jewelers are tricky that way)

Here is a picture of the soiltaire underneath the 3/4 carat pear shape sizer. Does it look to be a 72-73 point solitaire?

It looks that way, but remember that you can only estimate weight in this way and you may be WAY off. Things like the depth and girdle thickness can change the weigh estimate dramatically. The best way to get an accurate weight is to remove the stone and weigh it.
