Blue Topaz Radioactivity
My son just bought a beautiful 9mm blue topaz cushion ring at Costco for his intended fiance. On the way out, I just remembered about the radioactivity concern. He said he didn't think it would be as much as a cell phone. What is the current situation with this? Should he get it checked? If so, who could do it? Thanks. |

Re: Blue Topaz Radioactivity
Just found this from the Jewelers Vigilance Committee of the American Gem Trade Association: Is it dangerous to wear blue topaz? No. The NRC has no indication that wearing irradiated gemstones can be harmful. There have been no reported cases of anyone being harmed by wearing irradiated gemstones. From a safety standpoint, there is no reason to stop wearing blue topaz or any other irradiated gems. There is no reason to believe blue topaz or any other irradiated gemstone poses any health risk. The NRC has not advised, requested or ordered any retailers or distributors to stop selling irradiated gemstones. |
