Can you please help me out?
I have this rough emerald from South America and I don't know much about them. It looks pretty good. Can anyone give me an idea on wether it's worth taking it to an appraiser or not? I just don't want to spend the money to have it looked at if it's worth bubkiss. |

Hi Michelle, I think owen20 is right there is no need to invest your efforts and money on it because is is not worth full. Just keep as your collection for the old items. |

Michelle, You have a lovely memory in this small piece of Green Beryl. However, Deep green is the most desired color in emeralds. The paler the color of the emerald, the lesser its value. Pale emeralds are not called emeralds, but "green beryl". They are sometimes heat-treated, in which they become aquamarine. I would keep it if you collect different types of stones & minerals but your money would be better spent on something other than an appraisal of a piece of Green Beryl. This is only my opinion, I am certified by the GIA and as a professional, I would probably turn down appraising it to save you the money due to it's inherint nature and it's size. Nice find though
